your government supports spam
dismiss this to the crackpot file if you will, but do me the courtesy of 30 seconds thought before you do.
my house is designed wrong. well, my tenancy is designed wrong anyway. the door swings inwards. the reason this is wrong is because i want to put a box behind the letter flap to catch all the junk mail. it's almost as bad as my virtual letter flap: about 80% spam.
i have a box to put all this in, and send it to the recycler. no, i don't read it. yes, it is a waste of everyone's time and money, not least the earth's. okay, i won't bang on like a hippy for too long, but think about this:
it's a problem that everyone is aware of. the government can put legislation in place to prevent people from saying things 'glorifying terror' but what about this spam eh? i don't want it, and neither do you. do you know anyone who actually pushes the stack of junk with his door of an evening and exclaims with joy at the sheer volume of glorious unsolicited mail? write to me if you have, i mean, this is not a rhetorical question.
the simple solution would be: shut down the printers who take the type of mail that is classed as junk. that's right: environmental police baby. sure, it would be bad for the printing trade, but then surely, in our knowledge economy, we can retrain skilled people into some other burgeoning, non spam field? we want less spam, we want to save trees, so why not stop people from making one into the other?
answer: it's not in the government's best interest.
